Xiaomi has summoned us today in China to show us two new high-end mobiles, configuring both as a strong commitment to 5G by the brand. The first is the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro , a device that comes to swell the not exactly small Xiaomi Mi 9 family. The second is the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha , spiritual successor of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 and the one that concerns us right now.

Following the tradition of the Mi MIX family, Xiaomi has created an all-screen terminal that is now curved, very curved, so that it takes advantage of 100% of the front , expands along the frames as the Vivo NEX 3 already did with its waterfall screen and reaches the back. But the screen is not the only thing that stands out, since the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is also the first smartphone to have a 108 megapixel rear camera .

The screen as the protagonist

So it is ahead …… and so it is behind.

One of the most striking elements of the Mi MIX Alpha is, without a doubt, its screen. This is not like all the phones we have seen so far, but the screen occupies the entire front, overflows from the sides and expands on the back , leaving only a small frame behind where the camera is housed. It is a terminal all screen, almost literally. Xiaomi has christened this technology as “4D Surrounded Curve Display”.Combining sensors with artificial intelligence algorithms, Xiaomi says it has managed to avoid ghost touches

One question that can be asked is how Xiaomi has managed the ghost touches . After all, not touching the screen aims to be an impossible mission. The terminal has a series of sensors that, combined with artificial intelligence algorithms, are able to detect the areas of the screen we are using and deactivate the areas that are not, thus avoiding accidental touches

Due to the device’s own design, it is impossible to put physical buttons for the volume or to turn it on, so the Chinese firm has opted for virtual buttons . The frames are pressure sensitive on both sides and thanks to a vibration motor simulate the touch of a physical button.

This “frameless” screen really does have them, and at the bottom there is a small 2.15 mm space where the antennas, the GPS and the other components that will take care of the device’s connectivity have been hidden. This frame is constructed of an aerospace grade titanium alloy “three times stronger than stainless steel” and “1.3 times stronger than 7” aluminum alloy.

The only place the screen does not reach is the strip in the back. This strip is made of ceramic at the bottom, while the upper area, where the three rear chambers are housed, is covered with a sapphire crystal whose purpose is to protect the lenses.
