With a string of games already available, Nintendo is now a regular mobile release. Aiming more at its monetary success than in regard to criticism, the arrival of one of the most beloved franchises by its followers had to demonstrate whether it charges more to one side or the other. Fortunately for those who were looking forward to ‘Mario Kart Tour’ , it seems they have managed to maintain a good balance.

With adapted controls and a good collection of circuits, characters and power-ups, ‘Mario Kart Tour’ aims as high as we like it as when we take out the rooms. A season pass, the usual gem store and timid limitations in terms of progress make the driving game a sort of free-to-play business model decalogue . Fortunately it is not, by far, an aggressive game in that regard.

The constant fear of free to play

Coming from a week in which the Apple Arcade test has made it easy for one to forget about micropayments, advertisements and other monetization strategies, my first hours with ‘Mario Kart Tour’ have been continually besieged by the shadow of doubt. When are you going to force me to pay? When will you avoid playing calmly? What dark intentions are you still hiding from me?

This being one of the hot topics of today, it seems fair to recognize that, at least for now, there is not much to fear. At least not in comparison to all the skating that the great N has perpetrated with other of his games, from the slot of ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ to the lives of ‘ Dr. Mario World ‘in the purest King style.

The skid that just crashed into a lamppost in this case turns out to be the Golden Pass of ‘Mario Kart Tour’ . Far from being limited to purely aesthetic components, the game hides the highest difficulty behind this monthly exclusive. Only those who go through the ring of 5.49 euros will receive the displacement of 200 cc

It is not ideal and, of course, again demonstrates that Nintendo has little measure when it comes to putting the leg in new business models. It is curious how it opens the doors to the field to give you the feeling of freedom but then takes care of undermining it completely so that you walk with more eyes than necessary.
