How is a mobile ‘gaming’ different from a high-end one? Probably in its specifications. And the new ASUS ROG Phone II is a perfect example. A year after presenting its mobile ‘Republic of Gamers’, the Taiwanese manufacturer returns to the charge with a smartphone that impresses with its technical characteristics , considerably superior to any device we have seen to date.
The new ASUS ROG Phone II is the first mobile with the new Snapdragon 855 Plus processor , but it also comes accompanied by a 120Hz OLED panel, 12GB of RAM and a gigantic 6,000 mAh battery . A mobile that also incorporates other additions such as steam chamber cooling, double USB Type C to be compatible with a whole series of accessories and storage up to 512GB. A whole series of incorporations that logically have an impact on the design and weight of the device. Lets go see it.

An AMOLED display with variable refresh rate and low latency
The screen is a key element to enjoy a mobile. In addition, if we want to use it to play we want it to be as fluid as possible. In the ASUS ROG Phone II we have an AMOLED panel with 6.59 inches and FullHD + resolution . But the most striking is that we have a panel with a variable refresh rate. By default the ROG Phone II panel is at 60Hz, but from the screen settings or with compatible games we can have up to 120Hz .
According to the theoretical data offered by ASUS, the ROG Phone II screen offers a latency of 49ms, for example lower than 87ms of the Galaxy S10 + or 85ms of the OnePlus 7 Pro. Additionally, the panel is compatible with 10-bit HDR .
The design of the ROG Phone is quite peculiar, with a very differentiated appearance from high-end mobiles and easily identifiable as a ‘gaming mobile’. And we are facing a terminal with about 9.5 millimeters thick and weighing 240 grams .We do not have ‘notch’ and the edges are not precisely reduced, but it is not a factor that seems to affect the experience that ASUS wants to convey. Although, we do have a fingerprint reader built into the screen. The reason for this weight is found in its huge internal battery and in the different elements added to the terminal. We have from double stereo front speaker, a steam cooling chamber, a powerful haptic system and double USB type C to connect the various accessories.
A new level of power and autonomy
Inside the ASUS ROG Phone II we find the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor , with a clock frequency slightly overclocked with respect to the standard model. The same goes for the GPU, where the Adreno 640 operates at 675MHz to gain 15% performance over the Snapdragon 855. And the ASUS ROG Phone promises to be the most powerful mobile to date, exceeding 6,200 points in the benchmark Sling Shot Extreme.
Accompanying the processor we have 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage. But it is the battery that reaches unusual figures. 6,000 mAh compatible with 30W ROG HyperCharge or Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging . A capacity that according to the theoretical data of ASUS, will serve to play PUBG Mobile for 7 hours. In the photographic section, the ASUS ROG Phone II incorporates an IMX 586 main sensor of 48 megapixels and a secondary one of 13 megapixels for wide angle, with a field of view of 125 degrees. On the front, the camera chosen is 24 megapixels.
Availability and price of ASUS ROG Phone II
The ASUS ROG Phone II will be available in early September in black at a price yet to be determined. It will not be an economic terminal and to have a reference, we will remember that the first ROG Phone had a cost of more than 900 euros .
Accompanying the new mobile ‘gaming’ we have a series of optional accessories to complement the experience. This includes the AeroActive Cooler II, to improve cooling, the Aero Case, a protection, the Twin View Dock II, which adds a second screen, the ROG Kunai Gamepad, which acts as a complete physical controller, the ROG Lighting Armor Case or the Mobile Desktop Dock, WiGig Display Dock Plus and Pro Dock, to send the image to a TV or external device.
